BETHANY COLLEGE UPDATES ATHLETIC SPECTATOR POLICY

February 17, 2021
LINDSBORG, KAN., February, 17 2021 - Effective immediately and until further notice, Bethany College has announced new spectator policies. Based on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is in the best interest of the safety of our students, faculty, and staff to have a significantly reduced number of spectators at this time. McPherson County Health Department (MCHD) and the McPherson County Board of County Commissioners/Board of Health announced February 10, 2020 that they were moving McPherson County to Phase 3 of the COVID-19 Reopening Plan. Phase 3 Limits gatherings to 45 individuals when 6-foot distance is not maintained.

For the KCAC Cheer Championships and Dance Invitational hosted at Bethany College on February 19, 2021: Due to the high number of participants and limited seating space, there will be NO spectators allowed for the KCAC Cheer Championships and Dance Invitational.

For volleyball and basketball events in Hahn Gym at Bethany College: Due to limited seating space, no visiting fans are permitted. Bethany College will allow a home team pass list of two family members per Bethany student-athlete that is suiting for the game. Bethany student-athletes will communicate their family member names for the pass list to their coach, who will communicate the pass list with the Department of Athletics Administration prior to the event. In addition, 30 tickets for Bethany students/faculty/staff will be available to reserve at

The College would also like to remind those sitting together in a pod to limit close interactions with individuals outside of their immediate family members.

Tickets for all home events are available at . No tickets will be available at the gate, tickets must be pre-reserved
Home athletic events are at no cost. Most visiting athletic events also have live video available. Links for those events will be posted on bethanyswedes.com.

LINDSBORG, KS. MAR. 27, 2025 — Students in Professor James Baker’s Elementary Social Studies Methods class had a unique opportunity to hear from distinguished guest speakers, the Honorable John Carlin and Bethany College alumnus Ryon Carey '95, during a recent session focused on history, government, and education. The event brought together students from both Professor Baker’s course and Dr. Rana Razek’s class for an engaging discussion on the branches of government, the role of the U.S. Department of Education, and the importance of civic understanding in the classroom. Governor Carlin, who also served as the Archivist of the United States following his tenure as Kansas Governor, offered students a personal perspective on his career in public service and shared insights into the responsibilities of preserving key national documents such as the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. His reflections underscored the value of historical records in shaping democracy and educating future generations. Ryon Carey, a 1995 Bethany graduate, also contributed to the discussion, offering his perspective on leadership and public service. “It was a privilege to welcome Governor Carlin and Ryon Carey to speak with our students,” said Professor James Baker. “Opportunities like this deepen our students’ understanding of the material and remind us all of the importance of connecting real-world experience to classroom learning. I’m incredibly grateful to both of our speakers for sharing their time and insights.” You can learn more about our Education Department at bethanylb.edu/education .
